e-conomic defends the role of SaaS
e-conomic has refuted claims by SAP’s CEO, Bill McDermott, that online software is ‘more expensive and riskier’ than traditional desktop software. Mark Davies, Managing Director of e-conomic said: “…SAP obviously felt that it was desirable to become involved in SaaS, yet less than a year later it is making these claims.”

Change of VAT rate
e-conomic already allows for the possibility of moving to a new rate of VAT. To change to the new rate of VAT, go to the Settings tab and click “VAT codes” in the left menu. In the list of VAT codes, click the edit pencil for each code that’s currently set to a rate of 17.5 and amend the rate to 15. Invoices will then utilise the new rate automatically. No other changes are required.

e-conomic takes on the giants
e-conomic has been highlighted in the small business accounting category and shortlisted in the web-hosted accounting category for the 2008 Software Satisfaction awards. The showing of online providers demonstrates “the growing reach of web-hosed software as a service (SaaS) systems. The numbers of respondents who used such software more than trebled, accounting for just under 10% of the accounting and finance sample”, according to AccountingWEB’s John Stokdyk.
