The future of the E-conomic Stock Management module

17 February 2011

A number of important improvements are coming to Stock Management in 2011

The beauty of the E-conomic Stock Management module is that it offers you a quick overview of all the stock that you have on hand. It allows you to create different variants of products (e.g. sizes and colours), order new products, as well as create different discount groups.

Our goal is to offer our customers a simple Stock Management solution.

Simple Stock Management

When we say we want to offer “Simple Stock Management”, we mean:
  • Basic handling of units/quantities with no production. Essentially, the ability to see additions, status and disposals of the same bulk products.
  • Integration with finance using the principle of average cost price. In other words, the ability to see the value of your stock in terms of cost price.
  • Other stock-related features, e.g. language layer, discounts and price structures, product collections, adjustment options, i.e. opening, obsolete stock, shrinkage, adjustments of quantity, cost price etc.

Looking to the future

Over time, we have received lots of good suggestions from our customers about how to improve the E-conomic Stock Management module. We have now taken all of your feedback into consideration and decided to implement a few important improvements to the Stock Management module in 2011.

While we will not introduce any added complexity to the Stock Management module (since it is not consistent with our desire for simple Stock Management), we will instead develop new features that will benefit and/or streamline the workflow of most of our customers.

Below, you will find a complete list of the Stock Management improvements that we have already released, as well as the upcoming improvements that you will see soon.

Stock Improvements already released

  • The ability to import foreign currency prices
  • The ability to import price lists (import special prices)
  • The ability to import stock adjustments
  • The ability to multiply the number of "Product collections" on an invoice if you want to sell more than one Product collection

Upcoming improvements concerning products

  • The ability to determine a ”Minimum quantity in stock” and ”Minimum reorder quantity” for a stock product so you can see a complete overview and quickly create a reorder report
  • The ability to allow editing of product name/description on supplier orders, receipts and supplier invoices

Upcoming improvements concerning supplier orders

  • The ability to add a customer name to a supplier order (this will ease so-called drop-shipping – for customers using this feature)
  • The ability to convert one or more customer orders into one supplier order
  • An improvement to the optional text field on orders to make it easier to order products that are not stocked, but are bought from the same supplier

Other improvements

  • Enable the payment term “Paid in cash” on supplier invoices
  • Addition of a drill-down list for ”Ordered” and ”In stock” products in the product list to provide a better overview

Keep your suggestions coming!

The improvement listed in the development plan above are what we promise will come to the Stock Management module in 2011. However, you still have the opportunity to make suggestions for the E-conomic Stock Management module. If you would like to, please bring forward proposals on the E-conomic forum.

We cannot promise that your suggestions will be implemented, but all input will be assessed and weighed by how much they will benefit all of our customers as well as our Stock Management goals listed above.
